Little Red Train to La Mer de Glace

petit train rouge a crémaillère

Breathtaking Panorama

ALL paths LEAD TO La Mer de Glace

Since 1908, summer and winter, the traditional red rail is still the preferred way for all to discover La Mer de Glace. Again and again, it remains one of the major attractions of the Chamonix Valley. The charming mountain village would not be quite the same without.

The power of the Montenvers site charms us even before our arrival. Every 30 minutes from Chamonix, the little red cogwheel train takes you to an altitude of 1913m! During the breathtaking 20-minute journey, time stops in this little train from another era.

All eyes on the Ice Giant

Upon your arrival, your eyes will be attracted like a magnet by this view, so often described in the fabulous mountain stories. Let yourself be impressed by the spectacle offered by the most mythical Glacier in Europe. La Mer de Glace is, with its 7 km long and 200 m thick, the largest French glacier and one of the most visited tourist sites each year.

In front of you stand the Aiguille Verte, the Drus, the Grandes Jorasses, the Aiguille du Grepon and the Dent du Géant. And among the highest peaks of Chamonix, admire La Mer de Glace that winds between the mountains. A trip that will transport you everytime to another dimension.
